District
Governor 5CA 2009 - 2010

|
District Governor Doug
Madill
I was born an identical twin in Kitchener, Ont. I grew up in a family
of 6. As a youth I belonged to Cubs, Scouts and Navy Cadets.
I joined the RCMP in 1962, was stationed in Saskatchewan, enjoyed the
variety of duties on general detachment work and retired in 1991. I
married my wife, Gerri, in 1968. Gerri is a Social Worker and retired
in April 2008. We have two adult sons : one working in Regina and the
other in Calgary.
My personal interests include antique and junk collecting which
sometimes gets me in trouble with my wife. In addition, I am interested
in Mounted Police history and artifacts. I belong to the Saskatoon RCMP
Veterans Division. Membership in Toastmasters is an enjoyable learning
activity for me. I have been on the Board of Mangers for 9 years at the
Calvin Goforth Presbyterian Church.
My first experience with Lions was as a camper at Belwood Lodge in
Ontario. I or my brother Don, won Honour Camper of the Year award in
1955. I have a plaque to prove it (maybe my brother won it!). When
posted to different communities I saw the valuable work the Lions did
in many communities.
I was invited to become a Lion in 1986 while living in Tisdale. Due to
job transfers, I also belonged to clubs in North Battleford, Yorkton
and am currently with Nutana in Saskatoon. Being in different clubs has
shown me that different personalities affect how a club functions. We
all need to remember that everyone is a volunteer.
I have held the club positions of President, Past President, Tail
Twister, Director, chaired a variety of projects and in the district
have been Zone Chairman and Region Chairman. I was honoured to receive
recognition for coordinating activities and cooperation between the
three clubs in Yorkton (1996). Another proud moment was when I received
the Brian Stevenson Award (2006) and the Everyday Hero Award (2009)
My philosophy of Lionism is that all members be involved/included in
projects and to honour (never forget) the motto 'We Serve'.
My goal is to create harmony amongst all Lions, to acknowledge various
viewpoints and to include all members as much as possible.

Governor 5CN 2009 - 2010
District Governor Ron
Ewles
Lion Ron Ewles was born and raised in Brampton, Ontario. Shortly after
he married Carol, 44 years ago, life’s adventures began with a move to
Winnipeg, and a few years later to Saskatoon. Ron and Lion Carol have 3
adult children, son Don and his wife Margot, and daughters Susan and
Jennifer. They love traveling, and, with their family, have explored 9
Canadian Provinces, 44 of the 50 U.S. States, and have found new
adventures everywhere, including walking on a glacier in Alberta,
mining for diamonds in Arkansas, and a mid-July snowball fight in
Alaska.
Lion Ron is a “mostly-retired” computer software consultant with
over 40 years in information technology, designing and developing
financial and manufacturing software. Ron is a former Mayor of
Martensville, Saskatchewan and served as Chairman of the Martensville
Police Commission. Ron was active in the Saskatoon business community,
and served a term as President of the Saskatoon Business Promotion
Club. When he’s not busy with the Lions Club, Ron enjoys golf, hunting,
fishing and tournament poker.
Lion Ron is a Charter Member of the Martensville Saskatchewan Lions
Club, with 18 years of Lions service. Ron has belonged to Lions Clubs
in Martensville and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, as well as Welland and
Burlington, Ontario. He has filled most club executive positions during
that time, and has received 100% President and 100% Secretary awards
and the Key Member award.
Ron has held a number of positions on the 5CN District Cabinet,
including Zone Chairman, Deputy District Governor, Regional Chairman,
Lioness Liaison Co-Chairman, Information Technology Chairman and
Director of the Saskatchewan Lions Eye Bank. During three years as
Lioness Liaison Co-Chairpersons, Lions Ron and Carol helped start 12
new Lioness Clubs. While serving as Deputy District Governor, Ron was
presented with the 5CN Deputy District Governor of the Year Award.
In the west, Lions Ron and Carol have attended most District 5CN and
several Multiple District 5 conventions. In Ontario, they joined the
fun at Districts A4, A7 and Multiple District A conventions. In 2008,
they had the opportunity to participate in the Great Plains Lions
Leadership Institute in Leavenworth, Kansas.
Lions Ron believes it’s “FUN TO BE A LION”, and plans to introduce his
own form of zaniness wherever he goes.
The Adventure
Continues!

I have served as Zone Chairman twice and Region Chairman twice. I
was extension chairman for 31/2 years. I chaired the 2007
MD5 Convention in Regina. I started the Lions Share the Warmth

For many years I coached softball; both adult and children and usually
was the coach when any of my children were playing. I am a
staunch supporter of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and have had season
tickets for over 20 years. I have curled for over 60 years and
been to Provincial Playdowns 5 times in Seniors , Masters and with
Lions.
I am looking forward to becoming District Governor in 2009. With
the many changes forth coming such as re-districting, I think it will
be a very exciting and challenging year.
